B i o g r a p h y

Brad Maffett is in his second season as Conductor of the Athens Symphony after spending five years as Associate Conductor and five years as Assistant Conductor with the Athens Symphony and is the former Principal Trombone. Previously he had performed with the Athens Symphony Chorus and served as a rehearsal assistant for the chorus.

 

Mr. Maffett received his Bachelor of Music degree from Georgia State University in 1996 and his Master of Music Education from The University of Georgia in 2007. He has studied conducting with Thomas Sleeper and Thomas Wubbenhorst. He has also studied in workshops with Robert Rumbelow, Jerry Junkin, Donald Hunsberger, and Frederick Fennell.

 

Mr. Maffett conducts Band and Chorus at Franklin County Middle School in Carnesville, Georgia. He has previously been the conductor for “Musica Fraterna” of the Atlanta Children’s Choir, Local Vocals, and B Natural. His groups have been selected to represent the state of Georgia for the National 4th of July Parade and to perform for President George H.W. Bush. He has also been a guest conductor and guest clinician for various groups.



In addition to his symphonic and choral experience, Mr. Maffett has been involved in all aspects of music, from serving as a singing waiter to playing tuba in a polka band. When not involved in music, he can be found cooking barbecue in competitions throughout the southeast.
